No, most insurance companies (approx. 87%) cover Chiropractic and our office will help you with a reasonable plan that will allow you to regain your health without unreasonable expenses. We will be happy to discuss this with you in our office once we know the details of your particular condition.
Studies conducted show the clinical appropriateness and effectiveness of chiropractic care. One of the most recent, funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health, stated emphatically that:
“On the evidence, particularly the most scientifically valid clinical studies, spinal manipulation applied by chiropractors is shown to be more effective than alternative treatments for low back pain…There would be highly significant cost savings if more management of low back pain was transferred from physician to chiropractors.
No. Doctors of Chiropractic are considered primary health care providers. According to the Center for Studies in Health Policy, “The DC can provide all three levels of primary care interventions and therefore is a primary care provider, as are MDs and DOs.”
There are only a few insurance policies in our area that require a referral. Again feel free to call our office to check your insurance coverage.
Find another doctor who will. Your doctor is still “in the dark” as to the benefits of chiropractic care. The relationship between the medical & chiropractic professions has improved vastly over the past 10 years, but there remain a few staunch medical doctors out there who refuse to look at the benefits of chiropractic care.
Yes. It’s an unfortunate fact that up to half of those who had spinal surgery discover a return of their original symptoms months or years later. They then face the prospect of additional surgery. This too common occurrence is known as “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome.” Chiropractic may help prevent repeated back surgeries. In fact, if chiropractic care is initially utilized back surgery can often be avoided in the first place. We have had a lot of success treating post surgery, from scars that are not yet even healed to patients 50 years post surgery, we can use any number of mild treatments to assist your pain and speed healing.
Chiropractic is the fastest-growing and second-largest primary health care profession. According to Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards there are approximately 81,000 doctors of chiropractic (DCs) in active practice in the United States spread from rural areas to inner cities. More than 10,000 students are currently enrolled in chiropractic educational programs accredited by a federally-recognized body (CCE). The ratio of DCs to the general population, based on the Bureau of the Census figures is estimated to be one doctor of chiropractic for every 5,100 citizens. This compared dramatically to the ratio of medical providers to the general population as there are well over ten times more MDs than DCs. Thus the MD to general population ratio is approximately one to every 430 citizens.
Chiropractic services are in high demand. Tens of millions of Americans routinely opt for chiropractic services and this number is rapidly growing. By 1993, more than 30 million consumers made chiropractic a regular part of their health care program. According to an article in Prevention magazine, up to 100 million Americans have used chiropractic care, including 27 million in 1999 alone.
Current estimates are around 39 million people have at least visited the Chiropractor once.
bsolutely not! Chiropractic can help people of all ages, from newborn infants to the elderly. Infants often need chiropractic care shortly after they’re born because the birthing process can be one of the most traumatic experiences their spines ever have. Think about it – their spines are being twisted and pulled moving through the brith canal – and that’s during a “normal” birth! Making sure your infant and child’s spines are in proper alignment can reduce or eliminate many health issues – such as ear infections, colic, colds, etc – as well as prevent any chronic back or neck pain or issues later in their life. Children, particularly school-age children, carry backpacks full of books that can put a lot of undue pressure on their shoulders, causing them to have improper posture and leading to subluxations of the spine. Chiropractic care is for people of all ages because it is safe, gentle, natural, and highly effective! Feel free to ask one of our doctors or staff about their experience with children – or see our testimonials page!
Doctors of Chiropractic are licensed in all 50 states. DCs have been licensed and recognized for many decades in all states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Yes, to receive the doctor of chiropractic degree, candidates must complete extensive undergraduate prerequisites and four years of graduate-level instruction and internship at an accredited chiropractic institution. Comprehensive knowledge of all systems of the body and diagnostic procedures enable the DC to thoroughly evaluate a patient, address disorders relating to the spine and determine the need for referral to another health care provider. The practice of chiropractic is based on sound scientific principles.
The existence of the nervous system as the primary control mechanism of the body is an undisputed scientific fact. Its relationship with the spine is the focus of the practice of chiropractic. The spine develops in utero to provide two primary functions: (1) allow for freedom of movement and (2) house and protect the spinal cord.
When the vertebrae of the spine become misaligned through trauma or repetitive injury, two major consequences will result: (1) the range of motion becomes limited and (2) spinal nerves emerging from the spinal cord are compromised. DCs use the term “subluxation” to describe such disruptions. Interruption of nerve flow can eventually lead to pain, disability, and an overall decrease in the quality of life. Conversely, the removal of that interference has been shown to have significant, lasting health benefits. Through the adjustment of the subluxation, the doctor of chiropractic endeavors to restore normal nerve expression. The body is then able to respond appropriately to any imbalance in the system, thus relieving symptoms and restoring health.
Much more information is available through thousands of research papers published through research programs at Chiropractic Schools and a great deal of confirmation is made through medical research studies as well. The process of chiropractic adjustment is a safe, efficient procedure which is performed nearly one million times every working day in the United States.
There is a singular lack of actuarial data that would justify concluding that chiropractic care is in any way harmful or dangerous. Chiropractic care is non-invasive; therefore, the body’s response to chiropractic care is far more predictable than its reactions to drug treatments or surgical procedures. Of the nearly one million adjustments given every day in this country, complications are exceedingly rare. Perhaps the best summary statement on the subject of safety was published in 1979 by the Government of New Zealand which established a special commission to study chiropractic. They found:
“The conspicuous lack of evidence that chiropractors cause harm or allow harm to occur through neglect of medical referral can be taken to mean only one thing: that chiropractors have on the whole an impressive safety record.”
In our office we offer the Pro Adjuster which adds the option for the patient to choose an adjusting method that is both high tech, accurate and effective as well as eliminating the “popping” or “cracking” sound that causes some to feel fearful. Please call for additional information on the Pro Adjuster, we will be happy to send you a DVD or magazine that will answer many questions. For our patients that prefer the “traditional” adjustment, we have years of experience and are happy to accommodate their preference as we know that Chiropractic Adjusting is safe. Most people don’t know that we adjust day old babies and our oldest patient so far was 102. We are able to perform adjustments that are gentle and appropriate for every age in between.
Of course not. But, ask yourself this: How many times you have visited a dentist? Like most people, you’ve probably gone dozens of times. Why? Quite simply, to prevent your teeth from literally rotting out of your head. Once chiropractic care eliminates your pain and rehabilitates the injured tissues we do recommend that you maintain a schedule of periodic spinal checkups. Like your dentist and like many of the medical experts are now recognizing, prevention is the key to reducing recurrences of existing health conditions and minimizing new injuries in the future. So the answer is yes, we want you to keep coming back, and because you will feel good you will want to keep coming as well. Chiropractic care minimizes spinal and nerve stresses, reduces recurrences of old injuries, prevents new injuries from developing, and minimizes degenerative processes, all of which enhances overall health and wellness. By no means will you ever be required to return, but when you compare the cost of insurance and medical expenses it wouldn’t be hard to see that a natural lifestyle that incorporates Chiropractic care is the best prevention at the least cost.
